KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Medical software maker Cerner Corp. said Monday it received approval to sell a fetal monitoring system that coordinates data on both the mother and fetus.

Cerner said the system, called FetaLink, combines data that can be used to create a fuller record of the mother and fetus' health. FetaLink documents and displays the relationship between fetal heart rates and contractions, and will allow clinicians to compare current data to information from earlier in the pregnancy or previous pregnancies.

Cerner shares gained $1.03 to close at $73.53 before an announcement on the approval was made.
