SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The CEO of Automatic Data Processing Inc. received compensation valued at $6.2 million in fiscal 2009, down 22 percent from the prior year, according to an Associated Press calculation of figures disclosed in a regulatory filing.

ADP, a payroll and tax filing processor based in Roseland, N.J., gave Gary C. Butler a $1 million base salary for the 12 months that ended June 30, up 11 percent from 2008. Butler also received $1.3 million in incentive-based bonus pay, which is half of what he was granted the year before.

He received stock and option awards that had an estimated value of $3.6 million on the date they were granted, down 14 percent from fiscal 2008.

Butler, 62, also received $221,203 in other compensation — nearly flat with the year before. This included $125,000 for a perquisite allowance he used mainly for his personal use of planes chartered by ADP, $10,233 for a car allowance for personal travel, $20,500 for a matching charitable contribution made by the ADP Foundation and $38,506 in dividends on restricted stock.

During fiscal 2009, ADP's earnings rose almost 8 percent to $1.33 billion, or $2.63 per share, from $1.24 billion, or $2.34 per share, the prior year. Revenue rose 1 percent to $8.87 billion from $8.78 billion.
