Miami's Sagamore Hotel Doubles as Gallery

"We thought it would be a great idea to have video art in the hotel because it constantly changes," Christine Taplin says. "So when the hotel is full of people enjoying themselves, they have the opportunity to be engaged in a conversation with a friend or colleague, and at the same time glance around the room and see visuals that are beautiful and thoughtful."

The Sagamore is constantly adding new works, artists and mediums to its collection, which adorns spaces as unusual as staircases to rooftops.

"I love art and I love learning and exploring all that I can," she says. "Sometimes I will be looking at art in New York, for instance, and the entire day passes and I feel as though it has only been a few minutes. The process is wonderful, exciting and provocative."

Beyond an investment, the collection is a personal achievement the Taplins "revisit on a daily, if not weekly, basis." The couple's children have art in their homes. They also display art in the bedroom they reserve for their grandchildren in their house.

"Art is an integral part of our lives and is something we would not be able to live without," she says.
