Sun Life Financial Promotes Acting CFO

TORONTO, Ontario (AP) — Sun Life Financial Inc. said Thursday that it promoted acting chief financial officer, Colm Freyne, to that post permanently.

Freyne stepped into the job in July, after Rick McKenney left to take the top financial post at Unum Group Inc. in Chattanooga, Tenn.

In a statement, Sun Life said that Freyne has three decades of international financial services experience. He has been with the Toronto-based financial-services provider since 2003 and served as controller before taking the finance chief post.

The Sun Life Financial group of companies had total assets under management of about $363 billion at the end of June.

The company's shares also trade in the U.S. and the Philippines. In the U.S., its shares slid 86 cents, to $29.10 in afternoon trading.
