ETNs as Trend Tracker: S&P 500, Oil, Gold

Another popular ETN was the PowerShares DB Gold Double Long ETN(DGP) at $23.9 million.

Gold for immediate delivery rose half a percent to $1,013 an ounce, close to its all-time high. If gold increases this year, it will be the ninth year in a row. Investors are concerned a rebound in the global economy will fuel inflation and are hoarding the metal as a response.

Since June 6, 2006, when the oldest ETN we track first launched, 85 ETNs have been created and currently trade in the U.S. That represents about one of every 10 exchange traded products. The iPath Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index Total Return ETN(DJP), the ETN that was started in June 2006, ranks sixth among the most popular ETNs.
