Medtronic Settles Patent Dispute With W.L. Gore

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. said Wednesday it settled a patent dispute with W.L. Gore Associates and expects a one-time gain during the fiscal second quarter.

Medtronic initiated the dispute in 2006 in regard to several patents dealing with medical devices made of nitinol, which is a shape-memory metal alloy.

Specific terms of the settlement are confidential, the company said.

Shares of Medtronic fell 26 cents to $37.89 in afternoon trading.
