Boeing has gone on a public relations campaign to maintain Pentagon funding of its C-17 military cargo plane. The immediate focus of the campaign, which even uses social networking sites such as Facebook, is to get Congress to fund 12 new aircraft in the fiscal 2010 defense appropriations bill. If the funding doesn't materialize, Boeing would cease production in July 2011, putting tens of thousands of people out of work. Critics contend the military doesn't need the plane and that it would be a waste of taxpayer dollars.
