NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- After a few days of polling, the results are in. And who did readers choose at the first small-cap solar to go in an industry shakeout?
Well, it certainly wasn't Ascent Solar Technologies(ASTI Quote), which brought in only 8.4% of the vote. Nor was it Spire(SPIR Quote), which clocked in with 12.7%. Evergreen Solar(ESLR Quote) also avoided "winning" the pool that each of these companies would rather lose, hauling in about 24.4% of the vote. No, after nearly 3,900 reader votes, it was a virtual dead heat with just over 27% of the vote each. But by late Friday, DayStar Technologies(DSTI Quote) had just edged out Hoku Scientific(HOKU Quote)... by a mere 12 votes. DayStar, whose shares are trading below a dollar, is down nearly 31% since the year began and, it should be noted, almost 78% since a year ago. -- Written by Sung Moss in New York Follow TheStreet.com on Twitter and become a fan on Facebook.- Loading Comments...
