NEW YORK (AP) — The Israeli wireless equipment maker Alvarion Ltd. said Wednesday it named Eran Gorev, an executive at NICE Systems Ltd., as its next CEO.

He is set to succeed Tzvika Friedman in the fourth quarter, taking over daily operations in December.

Friedman requested that the company's board find a successor in a statement in July. "For me, it's time to take a break, reconnect with my family, and pursue other business and personal interests," he said at the time. He has served as CEO since 2005.

Gorev steps into the role after five years at NICE, an Israeli telecommunications equipment maker, most recently serving as chief business officer.

Alvarion shares fell 9 cents to $3.76 in afternoon trading, while shares of NICE rose 63 cents to $29.80.
