Hospira Says FDA Approves 6 More Doses Of Heparin

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Drug delivery system and device maker Hospira Inc. said Monday it received Food and Drug Administration approval to market the blood thinner heparin in six new volumes and concentrations.

Heparin is used to thin blood and prevent clotting in catheters. Hospira said the doses range from one milliliter to 30 milliliters in size. Their concentrations range from 1,000 units per milliliter to 10,000 units per milliliter. The approval covers three single-dose vials and three multiple-dose vials.

In aftermarket trading, Hospira shares added 91 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $40 from a closing price of $39.09.
