SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Chip design software maker Magma Design Automation Inc. said Thursday its first-quarter net loss shrank to $4.3 million as costs dropped faster than revenue fell.

Magma said it expects revenue for the second quarter between $28.5 million and $29 million with a loss of 17 cents or 18 cents per share. Adjusted earnings were seen between a penny and 2 cents per share.
