Blue Coat Appoints Gordon Brooks As New CFO

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) — Blue Coat Systems Inc. said Tuesday it had appointed Gordon C. Brooks as its new chief financial officer starting when he joins the company Sept. 1. He also will hold the title of senior vice president.

The maker of computer security hardware and software said Brooks, 47, will join the company from VMware Inc., which makes software that allows business servers to run multiple operating systems simultaneously. At that company, he served as vice president of corporate finance.

Earlier, Brooks was chief financial officer for Spikesource Inc., which develops open-source applications.

Shares of Blue Coat climbed $1.05, or 6.1 percent, to $18.31 in after-hours trading. During the regular session, they slid 3 cents to close at $17.26.
