Raytheon Unit Gets $6.5M Navy Contract

WASHINGTON -- A unit of Raytheon Co. received a $6.5 million contract from the Navy for production of two fixed base, precision radar systems as a result of two base closures, the Pentagon said Thursday.

The need for the two systems is a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations to move Marine Corps helicopters from Naval Air Station Willow Grove, Pa. to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, and from Naval Air Station in Atlanta to Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.

Work will be performed in Marlborough, Mass, at McGuire Air Force Base and Robins Air Force Base over a 17-month period. The job is expected to be completed March 1, 2011.

Shares of Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon rose 43 cents to $47.38 in morning trading on Friday.
