MIAMI (AP) — Apparel maker Perry Ellis International Inc. said Wednesday it expects to post a profit in fiscal 2010, helped by lower costs.

Perry Ellis expects to earn between 70 cents per share and 85 cents per share for fiscal 2010, but revenue will decline in the low double digits.

"Although our top line remains challenged for next quarter as retailers had already committed to conservative fall 2009 plans, we expect to pick up momentum during the month of October and return to solid growth for the fourth quarter of this year," President and Chief Operating Officer Oscar Feldenkreis said in a statement.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect 75 cents in earnings per share.

Separately, Perry Ellis said it posted a slightly smaller second-quarter loss helped by lower operating costs.
