LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Gov. Jennifer Granholm says the tax breaks that encouraged five businesses to expand in Michigan no longer will be available unless lawmakers act.

Furniture maker Haworth Inc. said Tuesday it plans to move manufacturing from Calgary in Canada to Holland and Big Rapids, while footwear maker Wolverine World Wide Inc. is moving its Arkansas operations to Big Rapids. Three other companies also won tax credits to expand.

But the cap on MEGA tax credits now has been reached for the year.

Michigan Economic Development Corp. President Greg Main says he's "cautiously optimistic" the Senate will raise the cap for the rest of 2009. Some senators are asking for more transparency on how many jobs the credits create.

The House already has passed the bill.
