Earnings Roundup: Mastech Holdings, Kohl's

Among the earnings stories for Thursday, Aug. 13, from AP Financial News:

PITTSBURGH (AP) ¿ Mastech Holdings Inc. reported that its profit dropped nearly 77 percent in the second quarter on weak revenue.

NEW YORK (AP) ¿ Department store operator Kohl's Corp. said better-than-expected sales of home products and accessories such as handbags helped it beat Wall Street predictions for its second quarter.

HOUSTON (AP) ¿ Oilfield services company Flotek Industries Inc. said it posted a second-quarter loss, as a tough economy cut its sales by more than half and the company recorded a charge.

NEW YORK (AP) ¿ Tighter inventory controls helped Wal-Mart Stores Inc. earn more than Wall Street forecast in its second quarter, but the key barometer of same-stores sales fell at the world's largest retailer ¿ a worrisome confirmation of broad weakness in consumer spending.

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) ¿ Gammon Gold Inc. posted a second-quarter loss as fluctuations in foreign currency exchange rates weighed down the Halifax, Canada-based mining company's results.

MILWAUKEE (AP) ¿ Engine and power tool maker Briggs & Stratton Corp. said its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings soared despite weaker sales, helped by lower spending, commodity costs and taxes.

ELGIN, Ill. (AP) ¿ Middleby Corp., a maker of foodservice equipment with brands TurboChef and Toastmaster, said it earned a lower second-quarter profit as sales declined.

MILWAUKEE (AP) ¿ Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. said that its second-quarter profit climbed 46 percent, free of costs that burdened the drinks maker a year ago.
