50 Cent's Toys Get No Love: Unreal Estate

FARMINGTON, Conn. (TheStreet) -- There's a quaint little place in Central Connecticut just between New York and Boston where 17 acres gives a homeowner just enough room to escape the surrounding megalopolis and focus on life's simple pleasures:

A 40-person hot tub, a nightclub with a 20-screen video wall and enough bathrooms that you never have to use the same toilet two days in a row.

Welcome to 50 Poplar Hill Road in the tony Hartford suburb of Farmington. Spawned in 1985 from the mind of former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson, who once confessed he was "not tight with a dollar," the 48,000-square-foot residence sprawls out like a ready-made Versailles. From the fountain of lions' heads (or perhaps tigers, as Tyson owned a few of them in his salad days) in the driveway to the two-story marble lobby with a glass elevator, it's clear that one of the few elements the boxer skimped on was subtlety.

"Spacious, opulent, toys to impress the most pampered person," says Debi Orr, a broker for the Home Vision Group in Ridgefield, Conn., which represented the property until recently. "You can literally house dozens of people in the two separate wings plus the main core, and not realize they were in residence."

That may have been the idea when rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson bought the property from Tyson's ex-wife for $4.1 million in 2003. The deep discount from the $25 million asking price allowed Jackson to spend $6 million renovating and repairing the mansion's entourage-friendly 21 bedrooms, 25 full bathrooms, eight-car garage, five fireplaces, two guest houses and one-acre koi pond.
