Multiplex Index: Transforming Dollars to Yen?

Today is D-day for the U.S. summer blockbuster season as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opens. With many expecting this to be the biggest draw of the season, one would think that there must to be a theater seat somewhere on the globe that makes cost sense.

Too bad the dollar's continued slide against most major currencies is making global ticket prices a little harder to stomach. As a result of earlier currency moves, your best bet for a bargain may be in Tokyo today.

But, in truth, it may be best to wait to buy your ticket until after today's announcement from the Fed.

Many are expecting no major news on the interest-rate front, and so will instead focus attention on any monetary policy plans and economic forecasting signals.

And waiting may not be such a bad thing. Most reviews of Fallen are trashing the battling robot epic as a loud, unbearable, disjointed mass of explosions and slow-motion running.

Our favorite summation came from Roger Ebert, who wrote in his review "if you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together. Then close your eyes and use your imagination."

Then again, that may be exactly what people want.

Here's a quick rundown of our movie ticket prices today, compared to yesterday's:
