Airline Winners and Loser: JetBlue

Airlines shares lost ground again on Tuesday, as the broader market moved lower.

The AMEX Airline Index lost about 2%, with 10 of 13 component stocks lower.

Crude oil lost $2.62 a barrel at $66.93 in afternoon trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Jet fuel is one of the major costs airlines deal with.

UBS Investment Research analyst Kevin Crissey lowered his estimates on 10 airlines. "Demand remains putrid," he said in a note to investors. "Our bias is to think we've been too optimistic rather than pessimistic."

Crissey said he's not optimistic shares will go higher in the near term.

Shares of AMR (AMR Quote), parent of American Airlines, fell 14 cents, or 3.4%, to close at $3.96, Continental Airlines (CAL Quote) lost 26 cents, or 3.1%, at $8.07. Delta Air Lines (DAL Quote) lost 25 cents, or 4.4%, at $5.40. US Airways (LCC Quote) fell 30 cents, or 12.2%, to $2.17. UAL (UAUA Quote), parent of United Airlines, gave up 37 cents, or 10.4%, at $3.20.

AirTran (AAI Quote) lost 21 cents, or 3.8%, at $5.29. JetBlue Airways (JBLU Quote) fell 10 cents, or 2.6%, to $3.78. Southwest Airlines (LUV Quote) slid by 11 cents, or 1.7%, to $6.25 and SkyWest (SKYW Quote) dropped 3 cents to $9.66.
