Dividend.com: Midday Update

Stock quotes in this article: TLT , POT , FCX , BSX , GS , MOT , PALM , RTP

The markets gave up this morning's brief pop at the open, and we are trading mostly flat to down at this time. Let's take a look at what traders may want to keep on the radar as we get ready to head into midday.

Bullish

Treasuries(TLT Quote): Bonds are once again outpacing the equity markets. It may last just a touch longer, but not sure how many fund managers want to be showing they were long bonds at quarter-end.

Commodity Bounce: We're seeing some shares trading in the green in the early afternoon. Watch Potash(POT Quote) and Freeport McMoRan(FCX Quote) as early leaders.

Boston Scientific(BSX Quote): Seeing an early pop on positive implantable device news.

Analyst upgrades: Shares of Goldman Sachs(GS Quote), Motorola(MOT Quote), Conagra Foods(CAG Quote), Red Hat(RHT Quote), Starbucks(SBUX Quote), Palm(PALM Quote) and Rio Tinto(RTP Quote) are holding up well.

Bearish

Boeing(BA Quote): Selling off on news of 787 test flight delay.

Rambus(RMBS Quote): Trading lower after the company warned about earnings guidance.

PerkinElmer(PKI Quote): Shares trading lower on analyst downgrade.

China Plays

Baidu(BIDU Quote), Shanda Interactive(SNDA Quote) and Netease.com(NTES Quote) are down once again.

Airlines: Sector downgrade this morning pulling down airline stocks. Watching Continental(CAL Quote) as a gauge.

If you were long the Ultrashort plays and your stops were hit this morning on the brief dip, don't worry about it. Even though the SRS/SKF are up again now, discipline is a key if you aer looking to trade for consistent profits.

If you are looking to go long stocks at these levels, I would suggest a scaling-in strategy. Shares of SNDA are getting attractive at the $50 level. I would begin to take a small position and keep some capital to add to the name if necessary. I prefer adding to shares that are rising, but we may not know if $50 is the near-term low for SNDA, so it is prudent to keep some capital around for a second entry into the stock.
