Some IPhone Activations Delayed Up To 2 Days

SEATTLE (AP) — Some owners of Apple Inc.'s new iPhone 3G S may have to wait up to two days to make calls.

New iPhones must be plugged into a computer and activated before calling, text messaging, or surfing the Web using the cellular data plan. Apple and AT&T servers are both involved in the process.

From posts on blogs, Twitter and Apple forums, it seems most people are leaving Apple and AT&T Corp. stores in the U.S. with working iPhones.

But some say they received a message warning activation will take up to 48 hours due to high volume.

Overloaded Apple servers marred last year's iPhone 3G launch.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling declined to provide details on the situation. AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel declined to comment.
