Recent State Activities On Drug Data Mining

Supporters and critics of laws seeking to crack down on companies collecting and selling data on doctors' prescribing habits say the issue has come up in more than 20 state legislatures.

Legislation has passed in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont.

Here's where the issue has been active in 2009, according to Community Catalyst, a Boston-based health care consumers' group:

— States with pending legislation: Massachusetts, New York, Hawaii.

— States where bills have died this legislative session: Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Montana, Oregon and West Virginia.

— States where bills have been held over to next winter: Minnesota.
