New Deal May Aid Globe, Guild As Talks Begin Again

It also would likely settle the complaint with the NLRB — which the Times Co. greatly needs if it wants to sell the company, Boston College law professor Thomas Kohler said. The Globe has reported that the company has hired Goldman Sachs to manage a potential sale.

"It's much easier to sell if they have an agreement with the Guild, instead of pending charges," Kohler said. "The Times would have to reduce the price because whoever would buy it would become responsible for any liability that would flow from the charges."

He added, "I really do suspect that the parties would love to get this thing done with some sort of agreement with which both can live."
