Summit Chiefs To Meet With US Commerce Secretary

DETROIT (AP) — Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford says he and Dow Chemical Co. CEO Andrew Liveris will meet with the U.S. Commerce Secretary later this year to present the findings of a three-day summit on manufacturing, energy, technology and the environment.

Ford and Liveris have been co-chairs of the National Summit, which concluded Wednesday in Detroit. It drew more than 1,700 people each day from business, government and academia.

Ford says Secretary Gary Locke, who spoke Tuesday, invited them to Washington, D.C., to privately share the summit's to-do list. Organizers say recommendations also will be unveiled in 6-8 weeks at a Detroit Economic Club meeting.

Ford says one unanimous recommendation is for government and industry to work more closely and cooperatively.
