Amazon.com(AMZN Quote) purchased a visual product-search company that makes a popular software application for Apple's(AAPL Quote) iPhone.
A9.com, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, snagged SnapTell for an undisclosed amount, according to SnapTell's blog. SnapTell is the developer of an application that allows users to take a picture of an item they wish to purchase and connect to a venue featuring that item. Amazon already makes its own application for the iPhone and other mobile phones that allows consumers to take a photo of a product and have it matched in Amazon's product catalog. But Amazon's service relies on humans to make the match, while SnapTell utilizes software for the job, The Wall Street Journal reported. In April, Amazon acquired Lexcycle, the maker of a popular e-book reader application called Stanza for the iPhone. Shares of Amazon closed up 1% to $82.65.- Loading Comments...
