WASHINGTON (AP) — DuPont spent nearly $1.1 million in the first quarter to lobby on homeland security funding, trade matters and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.

The Wilmington, Del.-based company, officially known as E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., also lobbied the federal government on legislation involving transportation and agriculture funding, as well as chemical plant security, patent reform, fuel cells, energy efficiency and climate change.

The lobbying came as DuPont, as well as others in the chemical industry, faced a steep drop in demand for many of its products as consumers dealt with the recession.

In the January-March period, the company lobbied Congress, the White House, the departments of Transportation, Homeland Security, Commerce, State, Agriculture and other federal agencies, according to the report filed April 17 with the House clerk's office.
