DENVER (AP) — Safeway says its unionized Colorado grocery workers have agreed to extend their labor contract again until June 26.

The contract for Safeway workers represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 7 had already been extended twice before the sides resumed contract talks Thursday.

UFCW Local 7 represents about 17,000 Colorado grocery workers at Safeway, King Soopers and Albertsons whose contracts ran out May 9. King Soopers and Albertsons employees are working without a contract. Albertsons is operated by Supervalu Inc.

The companies negotiate separately with the union, but the contracts often have similar provisions.

The grocers and the union have disagreed on wages, pension benefits and a system that offers less pay and benefits for newer employees.
