Dividend.com: Morning Playbook

Stocks opened lower but there are numerous upgrades that may try to pull the market higher. Ben Bernanke is speaking before the House today and he has been a positive catalyst to the markets recently. Let's take a look at what's moving the market and on which areas of the market you should be focused.

Financials:

JP Morgan Chase(JPM Quote), Wells Fargo(WFC Quote) and MasterCard(MA Quote) have been laggards the last two trading days. Keep an eye on these names. If they fail to get going, the market's recent rally may be short-lived.

Homebuilders:

Hovnanian Enterprises(HOV Quote) and Toll Brothers(TOL Quote) both reported earnings and are both slightly lower in the early going.

Earnings Plays:

First Energy(FE Quote), Applied Signal Technology(APSG Quote) and Joyglobal(JOYG Quote) are all trading slightly higher. Williams Sonoma(WSM Quote) is down just a bit.

Story Stocks:

TiVo(TIVO Quote): Looks like a big winner after court rules in its favor vs. Echostar.

Aetna(AET Quote): Looks to be a loser after guiding lower.

Steel Dynamics(STLD Quote): Trading lower after offering to sell 27 million shares.

Transports:

Burlington Northern(BNI Quote), FedEx(FDX Quote), Union Pacific(UNP Quote) and Continental(CAL Quote) were all plays carrying the index the past couple of days. Traders need to watch these names closely for any signs of a pullback.

Upgrades to Watch:

Google(GOOG Quote): Goldman raises target to $486.

BB&T(BBT Quote): Upgraded at KBW.

Comerica(CMA Quote): JP Morgan upgrades to overweight.

Home Depot(HD Quote), Lowe's(LOW Quote), Target(TGT Quote) and Walmart(WMT Quote): All were upgraded to outperform at Baird.

Newmont Mining(NEM Quote): Upgraded at JP Morgan.

I'm starting to get concerned that the upgrade catalyst may be getting long in the tooth and may not have the recent pop we have been use to seeing.
