JoS. A. Bank Says Profit Grows In First Quarter

HAMPSTEAD, Md. (AP) — Menswear retailer JoS. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. reported Tuesday that its profit grew in its fiscal first quarter on stronger sales.

The Maryland-based company said it earned $11.5 million, or 62 cents per share, for the quarter ended May 2. That's up from $9.8 million, or 53 cents per share, it earned in the same quarter of last year.

Total sales for the quarter grew 11.4 percent to $161.9 million.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn 58 cents per share on revenue of $159 million.

The company did not comment on the results Tuesday but plans to hold a conference call Thursday to discuss the quarter.

Shares if Jos. A. Bank rose 50 cents to close at $41.22 Tuesday.
