Chip stocks seesawed Wednesday, mirroring turbulence in the broader market. A rally based in part on a not-so-terrible durable goods report faded in the afternoon, taking with it tech-stock gains, though the major indices did recover modestly by the time the market closed. Among the semiconductors, STMicroelectronics(STM Quote) -- which makes components for long-lasting goods in addition to those for computers -- maintained gains, finishing the day up 7.3% at $4.71.
