BLOOMFIELD, Neb. (AP) -- The 80-megawatt Elkhorn Ridge wind farm in northeast Nebraska has begun generating power.

The wind farm built by Edison Mission Group Inc. is Nebraska's largest. It sells electricity to the Nebraska Public Power District.

The Omaha-based energy company Tenaska owns about one-third of the wind farm.

The wind farm's 27 turbines are capable of producing enough power each year to meet the needs of about 25,000 homes.

But one of those turbines must be replaced because of a December fire that caused damage and injured three workers. Edison spokeswoman Susan Olavarria says investigators believe the fire was caused by a foreign object that touched high-voltage parts inside the turbine, but the investigation is not yet complete.

Edison Mission Group is a subsidiary of Edison International (EIX Quote).
