Grocery Stocks: Safeway, GAP, WINN Rise

Grocery stocks were mixed Wednesday as the broader market searched for direction.

Wal-Mart(WMT Quote) announced it is teaming up with Dell(DELL Quote) and software maker eClinicalWorks to sell electronic records to doctors through Wal-Mart's Sam's Club discount-warehouse division, according to The Associated Press. Wal-Mart shares were recently down 1.9% to $47.46.

  • Shares of Kroger(KR Quote) were down 2.9% to $20.82.
  • Whole Foods (WFMI Quote) rose 1.3% to $12.87.
  • Safeway(SWY Quote) rose 0.6% to $18.39.
  • SuperValu(SVU Quote) fell 0.8% to $14.38.
  • Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea (GAP Quote) was up 6.3% to $3.89.
  • Costco(COST Quote) fell 1.4% to $39.56.
  • BJ's Wholesale(BJ Quote) fell 3.8% to $28.06.
  • Winn Dixie(WINN Quote) rose 0.6% to $8.69.
