Veeco Instruments enters supply deal with Daiyang

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (AP) — Veeco Instruments Inc., a maker of precision manufacturing equipment, on Thursday said it has reached an agreement with South Korea-based Daiyang Metal Co. to supply equipment to make CIGS solar cells, or solar cells made from copper, indium, gallium and selenium.

Veeco expects to make its first shipment, a multimillion dollar purchase of FastFlex Web Coating Systems, during the fourth quarter of 2009. No other financial terms of the deal were provided.

Shares of Veeco slid 28 cents, or 6.6 percent, to close at $3.96 per share on Thursday.
