Grocery Stocks: Wal-Mart, BJ's Rise

With the exception of Wal-Mart(WMT Quote) and BJ's Wholesale Club(BJ Quote), grocery stocks were steeped in scarlet Thursday.

Wal-Mart shares were recently up 2.4% to $49.64 after the retail giant posted earnings that handily beat Wall Street's estimates.

BJ's shares also marked gains, recently rising 1.7% to $29.93.

Elsewhere, the story was not so positive:

Safeway(SWY Quote) was falling 2.9% to $17.80.

Kroger(KR Quote) was down 2.4% to $20.09.

Winn-Dixie(WINN Quote) was down 10.2% to $8.34.

Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.(GAP Quote) was down 11.1% to $3.14.

Whole Foods Market(WFMI Quote) was down 2.1% to $11.79.

Supervalu(SVU Quote) was down 5.4% to $15.10.
