Borders Cuts 742 Jobs Across Its Stores

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Borders Group (BGP Quote) is cutting 742 more jobs at its Borders superstores and Waldenbooks specialty stores nationwide.

The company said Thursday the cuts involve less than 3% of its total work force.

The cuts are effective immediately. The company says it primarily cut store manager and supervisor positions, although some other jobs were eliminated.

Borders said slow sales forced the cuts. The bookseller has been coping for some time with declining sales, which have been worsened by the weak economy.

Borders has made several other rounds of job cuts.
