Grocery Stocks: Costco, BJ's

In line with an early surge in the broader market, grocery stocks were primarily on the plus side Wednesday.

Costco(COST Quote) was rising 0.9% to $41.07 despite having posted a second-quarter profit that fell 27% from the same period a year earlier.

BJ's Wholesale Club(BJ Quote), meanwhile, reported a 5% increase in profit for its fiscal fourth quarter. Shares subsequently rose 8.8% to $29.85.

Elsewhere:

Safeway(SWY Quote) was up 3% to $18.54.

Kroger(KR Quote) was up 3.1% to $20.82.

Winn-Dixie(WINN Quote) was down 0.2% to $9.37.

Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.(GAP Quote) was up 8.8% to $3.58.

Whole Foods Market(WFMI Quote) was up 5.2% to $12.26.

Supervalu(SVU Quote) was up 5.8% to $16.07.

Wal-Mart(WMT Quote) was up 3.1% to $48.86.
