Dollar Drops After U.K. Rate Cut

 

Also on Thursday, the Labor Department said the number of initial claims for unemployment benefits slipped last week, but the number of people continuing to file claims for aid rose to a new 26-year high of 4.61 million. And the Labor Department on Friday is expected to report that the unemployment rate grew from 6.7% to 7% in December.

In other New York trading, the dollar fell to 1.1818 Canadian dollars from 1.1966.
