Former Merrill Lynch COO and president Greg Fleming is leaving the firm a few days after Bank of America's (BAC Quote) acquisition of the brokerage became official, according to a source who has seen an internal memo.

Fleming's departure is the second departure of a high-level Merrill executive this week. Former Merrill brokerage chief Robert McCann resigned from his post on Monday, a surprise blow to the business unit that was central to BofA's chief Ken Lewis's reason for the acquisition.

Fleming did not respond immediately to a call or an email message. CNBC reported Yale University, where he earned his law degree, confirmed he was joining its faculty.

Fleming was slated to head the global corporate and investment bank at BofA, reporting to ex-Merrill CEO John Thain, who is now president of the unit. An email to a BofA spokesman was not immediately returned.
