BMC Software to cut 6% of Work Force
SEATTLE -- Business software maker BMC Software (BMC Quote) said Friday it will lay off 350 employees this month, or about 6% of its work force, due to the weak economy.
The Houston-based company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that the job cuts will be made in every business unit and corporate department and across regions. It plans to notify affected employees sometime this month. BMC said it expects to record $18 million to $23 million in layoff-related charges in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal 2009. "Management may conclude that additional future actions may be required if global economic conditions deteriorate further, but the timing and extent of such actions or related charges are not currently determinable," the company said in the regulatory filing. As of March 31, BMC employed approximately 5,800 full-time workers, according to a separate SEC filing. Shares jumped $1.21, or 5.4%, to $23.74 in afternoon trading.- Loading Comments...
