UAW to Discuss Bailout Concessions
DETROIT -- Local United Auto Workers leaders from across the country will hold an emergency meeting Wednesday to discuss concessions the union may make to help auto companies get government loans.
UAW leaders called the meeting Monday night in an e-mail, obtained by the Associated Press, to local union presidents and bargaining chairmen. Members of the committee that negotiated contracts last year with General Motors(GM Quote), Chrysler and Ford(F Quote) also will attend. The CEOs of all three companies and UAW President Ron Gettelfinger will travel to Washington this week to present business plans to Congress as they try to get $25 billion in federal loans. Concessions by the union are part of the automakers' plans.- Loading Comments...
