Election Results by State (Update16)

 

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has won the historic 2008 election, with CNN concluding that he will receive at least 349 electoral votes.

Republican John McCain has claimed 163 electoral votes so far.

A total of 270 electoral college votes out of 538 is needed to win the election.

Below is an alphabetical listing of states and their electoral votes as determined by the 2000 Census. The list will be updated throughout the night based on preliminary results calculated by CNN for each state.

ALABAMA (9 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

ALASKA (3 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

ARIZONA (10 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

ARKANSAS (6 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

CALIFORNIA (55 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

COLORADO (9 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

CONNECTICUT (7 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

DELAWARE (3 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (3 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

FLORIDA (27 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

GEORGIA (15 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

HAWAII (4 electoral votes) Obama projected as winner.

IDAHO (4 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

ILLINOIS (21 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

INDIANA (11 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

IOWA (7 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

KANSAS (6 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

KENTUCKY (8 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

LOUISIANA (9 electoral votes) -- McCain projected as winner.

MAINE (4 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

MARYLAND (10 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

MASSACHUSETTS (12 electoral votes) -- Obama projected as winner.

MICHIGAN (17 electoral votes)-- Obama projected as winner.
