Motorola(MOT Quote - Cramer on MOT - Stock Picks) plans to sell its biometrics business, including its Printrak trademark, to a unit of international high-technology group Safran.

Motorola's biometric business unit develops and maintains automated fingerprint identification systems for law enforcement, civil and commercial customers around the world.

Motorola, in a statement Wednesday, said biometrics is a dynamic business that requires specialization and that the company needs to concentrate on delivering communications solutions to its customers.

The transaction is targeted to close in the first quarter of 2009.
