These days, the stock market is all about the financial sector, and there's little reason to believe that will change significantly when traders return to work in New York Tuesday.
One event that could be key for the market is testimony by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, who will be speaking before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. Bernanke will appear in front of lawmakers for three straight days this week, and he's expected to address the government's intervention in the markets and face questions from legislators about the state of the financial system. The earnings calendar won't be busy for a few more weeks, though a handful of companies are due in the coming days. For Tuesday, Lennar (LEN Quote), FactSet (FDS Quote), H.B. Fuller (FUL Quote) and Worthington (WOR Quote) are expected to release their numbers. Meanwhile, the economic calendar is empty, but a number of reports are scheduled for later in the week, including existing-home sales, durable-goods orders and the final data on second-quarter gross domestic product.- Loading Comments...
