Microsoft's(MSFT Quote) pairing of comedian Jerry Seinfeld and the company's Chairman and co-founder Bill Gates as pitchmen for the Vista operating system will end after two commercials, according to several media reports.

The ads, panned by critics, were meant all along to be a teaser campaign, according to a company representative, reports the LATimes.com's technology blog.

Buh-Bye, Jerry

The Wall Street Journal reports Microsoft said it plans to move Thursday into the next phase of the advertising campaign, in which Seinfeld will bow out for other personalities, including author Deepak Chopra, actress Eva Longoria and musician Pharrell Williams.

The Journal reports the campaign also will directly attack Apple's(symbol Quote) "Mac vs. PC" ads that mock Microsoft's Windows software.

Microsoft is paying $300 million for the ad campaign for Vista, the latest version of Windows, according to reports.
