This Week's Barron's Roundup

Editor's note: Welcome to Stockpickr's "Barron's Roundup." Each weekend, James Altucher presents Stockpickr portfolios related to articles in the latest issue of Barron's.

Cheap Energy: Oil and natural-gas stocks could be at levels that represent one of the best buying opportunities in years. Barron's sees opportunities in names like Anadarko Petroleum(APC), Suncor(SU) and XTO Energy(XTO).

Top-Ranked Managers: A survey top-ranked mutual-fund managers for the latest edition of Barron's Value Line. The pros are bullish on Charles Schwab(SCHW) and Hudson City Bancorp(HCBK) among others.

Long-Term Fund Manager: Barron's talks with Douglas C. Lane, president of Douglas C. Lane & Associates. The firm will only go long stocks, keeps its portfolio turnover low and invests with a long-term view. Lane currently favors General Electric(GE) and Qualcomm(QCOM).

Finding Overlooked Opportunities: Barron's talks with John Keeley Jr., founder and chief investment officer at Keeley Asset Management. He runs the Keeley Small Cap Value Fund (KSCVX). His specialty is finding under-the-radar companies that are going through restructurings or spinoffs and that trade at a discount. He likes Home Federal Bancorp(HOME) and Hill-Rom Holdings(HRC).

Speaking of Dividends: This Barron's column highlights the latest dividend increases, initiations and cutbacks. This week there's information on Whole Foods(WFMI) and Fannie Mae(FNM).

Bullish and Bearish: Each week, Barron's publishes bullish and bearish stories on a variety of stocks. We present summaries of those stories in this portfolio. This week, there are bullish stories on American Water Works(AWK), Auxilium Pharmaceutical(AUXL) and Priceline.com(PCLN).

Latest Activist Purchases: Which companies are the top hedge funds chasing? This week's list includes names like AudioCodes(AUDC), National Coal(NCOC) and Orient-Express Hotels(OEH) (OEH).

Research Reports: The latest analyst research highlighted by Barron's, including reports this week on Wachovia(WB), McDonald's(MCD) and Frontier Communications(FTR) (FTR).

Top Insider Purchases of the Week: Insider purchases are a lot more predictive than insider selling. Barron's lists companies where managers are buying stock, and we build a portfolio with those companies' stocks. There has been interesting activity in Empire Resorts(NYNY), Sirius-XM Radio(SIRI), Novavax(NVAX) and Merrill Lynch(MER).
