LOS ANGELES --
To cut down on metal usage, check out EcoStapler. Available in the U.K., it allows you to clip three pages together, without using staples. Here's how it works: Instead of using staples, the device cuts and folds the pages
back. Gadget Grrl says this little gem is best suited for small jobs.
Next, there is the LED Torch Light/Charger, which allows you to charge your cell phone or other electronic devices using a wind-up method. You're using elbow grease instead of batteries with this one.
The site mentions, "If everyone in UK offices saved one staple a day, that would be 72 tons of metal saved a year."
That may be true and that is the upside to not using staples.
However, the downside is that if you need to clip more than three pages, this might not be the answer. Also, if you use the device and then take the pages apart and try to put them through a
feed on a copier, they might clog up the copier. This little gadget is a good idea and might
work on-the-fly, or while traveling, but for everyday office work, it might need a few adjustments.
Also, from the U.K., this LED Torch Light/Charger is a way to charge your cell phone or other electronic devices without using batteries.
This model uses a wind-up method. There is a hand crank on the device and for every
two to three minutes of winding, it is estimated that you will be able to talk approximately eight minutes on your cell phone.
Note: Some electronic gadgets seem to take more than others; i.e., smartphones vs. some other cell phones might consume more.
What I like about these kinds of gadgets is that you don't have to buy batteries and it can
be used over and over again to recharge devices, unlike rechargeable batteries that eventually have to be replaced.
