Tech Winners & Losers: Jabil Circuit

Tech stocks were up sharply along with the major market indices as investors awaited announcements from Federal Reserve's policy meeting later in the day.

Electronics manufacturing services company Jabil Circuit(JBL Quote) gained $2.27, or 15.8%, to $16.60 after it beat analysts' expectations for the third quarter and guided higher for the current quarter. Revenue for the third quarter rose 3% to $3.09 billion and EPS, excluding one-time charges, was 26 cents, which was higher than analysts' expectations by 6 cents.

Jabil's strong earnings also helped lift shares of Nokia(NOK Quote), which were up $1.40, or 5.7%, to $26.06. Nokia is one of Jabil's largest customers.

Shares of Eastman Kodak(EK Quote) jumped $1.13, or 8.1%, to $15.16 after the company said it will use a $581 million tax refund to fund a stock buyback of up to $1 billion. The company currently has a market capitalization of about $4.2 billion.

Open-source IT security company SourceFire(FIRE Quote) gained 45 cents, or 5.9%, to $8.09 following news of a fresh buyout offer from private company Barracuda Networks. Barracuda said it is now offering $8.25 a share of SourceFire, up from its earlier bid of $7.50 a share. SourceFire's board has rejected the offer.

ComScore(SCOR Quote) recovered some ground following a decline Tuesday after Google(GOOG Quote) introduced a free ad planning tool for media buyers. Shares of ComScore, which had fallen nearly 20% Tuesday, were up $1.35, or 6.3%, to $22.80.

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion(RIMM Quote) shed $1.80, or 1.3%, to $142.28 ahead of the company's first quarter results. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters are expecting earnings of 85 cents a share in the quarter on revenue of $2.27 billion, compared with earnings of 39 cents a share on revenue of $1.08 billion. For the second quarter, analysts expect RIM to report earnings of 90 cents a share on revenue of $2.43 billion.
