Touch Diamond Can't Touch the iPhone

LOS ANGELES -- Touch Diamond is another contender in the smartphone category. Given the popularity of Apple's (AAPL - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) iTouch, there will be lots of manufacturers trying to invade this space. Gadget Grrl gave this gadget a go recently. See what she liked and disliked about it. Also, even mobile executives have to have fun, and the PC Gizmo is both fun and functional, she says.

One of the big differences here is that the Touch Diamond runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro OS. So, if you're glued to a PC, this might be an option. I liked the amped internal memory of 4GB, instead of the usual 2GB. And the 2.8 LCD has great resolution.

Of note here is the 3.5G connectivity, or HSDPA, which is short for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access. That means you'll be able to download and upload at a much quicker speed than most other smartphones today.

The 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera for stills and video is not out of the ordinary, more and more smartphones are including better cameras. But I did like the integrated GPS feature.

The Touch Diamond I looked at was only available in Asia and Europe, but there are sites offering an unlocked model.

Plug it into one of your USB slots on a PC and it will proceed to spin, flap its ears and produce LED light patterns and sound effects. Why? Because it's alerting you that you have email, an Internet telephone call or instant messages.
