Obama Beats Clinton in Guam Caucuses

05/04/08 - 11:59 AM EDT

Sen. Barack Obama (D., Ill.) narrowly beat Hillary Clinton (D., N.Y.) in the Democratic presidential caucuses in the U.S. territory of Guam Saturday, according to published media reports.

The margin of victory was only seven votes out of a total of more than 4,500 cast, according to an Associated Press report.

U.S. citizens living on the Pacific island aren't allowed to vote in the November election, but they do select eight pledged delegates for the Democratic Party convention, each with half a vote, the report noted.

The island also picks five superdelegates. Voters select two of these, and one has pledged support for Obama and the other is undecided, the report said. Among the other three superdelegates, one has favored Clinton, while the votes of the other two have not been declared, the report added.
