'Fast Money' Portfolios of the Week

04/24/08 - 12:41 PM EDT

James Altucher

Updated from 7:03 a.m. EDT

The traders of CNBC's "Fast Money" know exactly how to extrapolate the important data from Wall Street's daily news flow. The crew takes great pride in cutting through the market noise to find profit ideas.

The gang recently highlighted trading ideas that play off of stock fundamentals, hedge fund favorites and the booming hybrid car market. Here are some highlights from over the past week as aggregated from the show.

Fast Money's Hedge Fund Favorites: Some major hedge funds are loading up on shares in a few firms in which they see tremendous value. On last Thursday's "Fast Money" show, Pete Najarian told viewers, "Thermo Fisher Scientific TMO is a great stock because it's consistent and predictable but still manages to deliver growth, which is precisely why the hedge funds are buying it." Fast Money's Hedge Fund Favorites include Corning GLW and Altria MO among others.

Fast Money's Next Takeover Targets: The "Fast Money" traders noticed some unusual options activity in a few key stocks that could be suggesting a takeover is in the cards. On Monday's "Fast Money" show, Pete Najarian told viewers, "The options action in RadioShack RSH suggests to me that this stock could go higher." Fast Money's Next Takeover Targets include Lululemon Athletica LULU and Under Armour UA among others.

Fast Money's Hybrid Stock Plays: Hybrid sales in the U.S. surged 44% last year and accounted for 11% of domestic new car sales. On Tuesday's "Fast Money" show, Pete Najarian told viewers, "General Motors GM and Toyota TTM plan to profit from the trend by introducing battery-run versions of the Chevy Volt and Toyota Prius by 2010." Fast Money's Hybrid Stock Plays include Energy Conversion Devices ENER and EnerSys ENS among others.

Fast Money's Fundamental Stock Picks: Is now the time to get long momentum stocks, or should market players focus on fundamentals? On last Friday's "Fast Money" show, Karen Finerman told viewers, "I think the market is getting a little carried away. I have no idea where the market is going short term and I try not to focus on it." Fast Money's Fundamental Stock Picks include NYSE Euronext NYX among others.

Fast Money's Russian Oil Stock Plays: The Russian oil market is booming. The country is producing 10 million barrels a day and exporting 70% of that crude and product. On Tuesday's "Fast Money" show, Tim Seymour told viewers, "If you're looking for more trades, take a look at Lukoil LUKOY." Fast Money's Russian Oil Stock Plays include the Market Vectors Russia ETF RSX among others.

Fast Money's Natural Gas Stock Picks: Natural gas demand continues to surge, and the "Fast Money" traders know just how to play it. On last Monday's "Fast Money" show, Pete Najarian told viewers: "Natural gas has another energy superhero besides me behind it. I'm talking about Boone Pickens. He was called crazy for saying oil was going to $100, but now he believes natural gas is the future." Fast Money's Natural Gas Stock Picks include BJ Services BJS and Nabors NBR among others.

Fast Money's Trader Radar: In a segment called "Trader Radar," the crew highlights stocks with unusual volume that are lighting up screens across Wall Street. On Monday's "Fast Money" show, Dylan Ratigan told viewers: "On the trader radar tonight we're watching Hanesbrands HBI. Shares of this underwear company were among the most active on the NYSE today." Fast Money's Trader Radar includes Ford F among others.
